Backpacker insurance is an economical option for a worldwide or extensive traveler. The backpacker insurance comes in both standard and premium ranges. The standard cancellation cover per person is $1000 and the premium cancellation cover is $2000; in events of expenditure of funds due to flight delays and check in delays, subject to policy terms and conditions.
Medical emergency claim coverage under backpacker insurance is covered from $1000 to $2000 for standard and premium packages respectively. Personal possessions are covered for $1000; this cover is not available for standard users. It is available under special claims only. Further there is a limitation for additional $150 limit on certain personal belongings that may be lost or damaged. Very costly items cannot be claimed unless they are exclusively insured. There are situations where you may get your luggage delayed in delivery at the shipment port or in the airport; for as long as 12 hours, $150 can be claimed. Loss of travel documents can be claimed for $500 and a cash loss limit claim of $100 is applicable. The delayed luggage, personal and travel document claim is available only for premium packages. Personal liability covers can be claimed from $1000 to $2000 in basic and standard backpacker insurance packs. There are lawsuit expenses, hijack and kidnap, search and rescue covers available for premium members. The above stated estimates are guidelines and may vary from company to company. Sports coverage for winter sport equipments, ski equipments, scuba diving sets etcetera is available for both own and hired equipments. Backpacker insurance coverage is generally available to people from 35 years or under at the time of applying for the package. It is generally valid for 18 months, may vary between providers. Coverage will not be applicable if you happen to travel outside the marked areas of travel as registered with the insurance agency under the policy as stated in your plan. In events when the backpacker traveler decides to stop the extensive tour and return home; thereby declaring a stop to the tour package, a certain sum of $1000 for standard and $2000 for premium package may be refunded. However this may not be done in all cases. There are certain policy restrictions where refund will not be done. If the insured person involves himself in dangerous sports activities not listed in the policy norms he may not be covered for liabilities. A careful study of the coverage should be done to choose the right grade of policy. |
